Buried Concrete Box Structure Loading to BD 31

Two examples of output from the spreadsheet may be viewed by clicking the pdf icon.

BoxOutput.zip(473KB)

Bending moments, shear and axial forces for loads on a buried concrete box structure, as described in BD 31/01, are calculated. Single, double or triple cell boxes may be analysed on fixed or spring foundation supports.Dispersed wheel loads from moving vehicles (HA, HB, Accidental Wheel and Construction loads) are traversed across the structure to determine the worst effect on each member in the structure.

Temperature Effects, hydrostatic pressures and collision loading (depending on the nature of the structure and constraints) are also analysed.
The analysis is carried out using moment distribution with sway correction on a one metre length of box.
The scope of BD 31/01 sets the Standard for buried box structures with depth of cover up to 11.0m, and length between inside faces of outermost walls greater than 0.9m and up to 15.0m.
